Mildred J. Shoop, 89, of Sioux City died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014, at Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1212 Morningside Ave., in Sioux City. The Rev. Armand Bertrand will officiate. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, 1801 Morningside Ave., in Sioux City. Mildred was born on Sunday, Aug. 9, 1925, in Rosalie, Neb., the daughter of the late Edward Murphy and the late Henrietta (Mitchell) Murphy. She was raised in Rosalie and graduated from Rosalie High School in 1941.
On Dec. 24, 1942, she married Joseph D. Shoop in Monett, Mo. The couple moved to Sioux City after World War II, where they raised their family. Joe died on Nov. 10, 2013, in Sioux City.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was active in the parish circles and helping with the parish dinners. When her children were young she was active in Scouts and enjoyed going to their activities. Mildred loved quilting and playing bridge. She also enjoyed going to the family home in Colorado for holidays and vacations. Mildred and Joe loved to travel and had been to Europe several times.
Survivors include a son, Daniel Shoop of Sioux City; daughters, Loretta Dahlberg of Westminster, Colo., and Lynette (Gary) Jones of Littleton, Colo.; four grandchildren, Randy (Julie) Dahlberg, David Edward (Gina) Dahlberg, Marc (Alisa) Dahlberg, and Jennifer (Ben) Feeney; two great-grandchildren, Dayton and Taylor Dahlberg; two stepgrandchildren, Katherine (Gary) Griffin and Shaun Jones; and two brothers, Glen Murphy and Donald (Rita) Murphy, both of Walthill, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Brian and Stanley; and three brothers.
