SERGEANT BLUFF -- Milton John Clary, 85, of Sergeant Bluff died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, in Sergeant Bluff.

Milton was born April 2, 1922, in Sioux City, the son of John C. and Enid (Trumbauer) Clary. He attended school and graduated from Central High School. He continued his education at Iowa State University and Morningside College.
He married Joyce Ellsworth on March 2, 1943, in Omaha. Together, they made their home in Sergeant Bluff for 58 years. He joined the Merchant Marines and later served in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1945. He started farming and later became a carpenter and owned and operated his own business, Clary Construction. Joyce died April 23, 2003. He continued to live in Sergeant Bluff.
He was a member of the American Legion George Nelson Post 662 in Sergeant Bluff and had served on the Sergeant Bluff School board. He was an avid reader and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles. He went to B. Daltons and later Barnes and Noble every Monday. He also often went to the library.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan O'Neill of St. Paul, Minn., and Kathy Erickson of Grantville, Kan.; two grandsons and their wives, Mike and Janet Erickson of Meriden, Kan., and Matt and Jackie Erickson of Grantville; five great-grandchildren, Brett, Kayla, Jenna, Randy and Ronna; and a sister-in-law, Donna Clary of Sergeant Bluff.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother; and two sisters.
