Mindy Jill Steckelberg, 30, of Sioux City died Sunday, April 20, 2008, at her residence.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mark Lutheran Church, with the Rev. John Hagberg officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:30 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.
Mindy was born June 15, 1977, in Onawa, Iowa, to Wayne and JoAnne (Carter) Steckelberg. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith. The family resided in Mapleton, Iowa, until 1991, where she attended school in the severely/profoundly handicapped class. She moved to Sheldon, Iowa, with her parents, where she was taught by her home bound teacher, Sherry Kooiker until 1996, when she moved with her parents to Sioux City.
She loved balloons, being outside and sunshine days.
Survivors include her parents; a brother, Todd and Peggy Steckelberg and Camryn Rose of Omaha; her grandfather, William Carter of Sioux City; aunts and uncles, JoLaine and Steve Noreen of Sioux City, Kathy and Pat Barrett of Lawrenceville, Ga., Randy and Carol Steckelberg of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Blaine Steckelberg of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; cousins, Bryan and Bryce Noreen, Ryan, Ross and Lyssa Steckelberg and Jenna, Lindsey and Wesley Steckelberg; and many other loving relatives. She is also survived by her home health nurse and all her home health aides past and present who lovingly cared for her.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Dorothy Carter; and her paternal grandparents, Willis and Violet Steckelberg.
Pallbearers will be Steve, Bryan and Bryce Noreen, Gene Crippen, Steve Schultz and Don Schrunk.
Memorials in her name can be directed to Hospice of Siouxland or Special Troopers Adaptive Riding School (STARS barn).
