Genevieve Moraine Jones (Huber)

Genevieve M. Jones, 100, of Sioux City, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at her residence.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Whispering Creek Active Community. The Rev. David Koehler of Morningside Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Charter Oak Cemetery, Charter Oak, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at Whispering Creek Active Community. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Genevieve was born on Feb. 23, 1913, in Minneola, Iowa, the daughter of Dr. Simon A. and Clara J. (Hartje) Huber. She was raised in Charter Oak and graduated from Charter Oak High School. She attended Stevens College in Missouri, UCLA and University of Iowa. After college, she taught school in Elkhart, Iowa, Kingsley, Iowa, Logan, Iowa, and was a substitute teacher in San Antonio, Texas.
On Nov. 5, 1941, she married Prentist Jones in Charter Oak at the family home. She also worked for the Red Cross until 1951. Upon Prentist’s retirement from the U.S. Air Force in 1962, the family moved to Sioux City. Prentist died on Oct. 22, 1988 in Sioux City.
Genevieve was a member of Morningside Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed reading, knitting and sewing.
She is survived by two children, Doug Jones of Grand Junction, Colo., and Jan (Jones) and Larry Place of Aurora, Colo.; and two grandchildren, Rhonda Hudgeons and Brian Place.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, Robert A. Huber.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be given in her name for the Morningside Presbyterian Library.
