In 1962, she and four other Carmelite nuns established a new monastery in Sioux City at the invitation of Bishop Joseph Mueller and through the assistance of her sister and brother-in-law, Dr. George and Carol Spellman. She lived the life of a Carmelite for 73 years. For much of the 47-year history of the Carmel in Sioux City, she served as the prioress of the community. She also was responsible for overseeing the three major building additions.

She is survived by a brother and his wife, John and Pat Dwight; four sisters, Carol Spellman, Mary and her husband, B.J. Nelson, Kathryn Buser and Regina Evans; a sister-in-law, Helen Dwight; a brother-in-law, Vince Hanrahan; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Richard (Marguerite) and Joseph; a sister, Joan Hanrahan; and three brothers-in-law, Dr. George Spellman, Bill Buser and Max Evans.

She was a wonderful aunt and friend to so many.
