Myra J. Boucher

SIOUX CITY -- Myra J. Boucher, 97, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, July 16, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital, after a brief illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig A. Collison, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Berkemier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Myra was born on Feb. 5, 1912, in Jefferson, S.D., to Alphonse and Florence (Dumas) Chaussee. She attended country school at Coyote Bend, S.D., and then attended Jefferson High School in Jefferson, S.D. She was a lifelong resident of the Siouxland area and had lived in Sioux City since 1949.

She married Alcide O. Boucher on April 14, 1928, at St. Jean's Catholic Church in Sioux City. Alcide died on Oct. 10, 1981, in Sioux City. Myra was employed at Armours Packing Co. from 1951 to 1962. She then went to work as a nurse's aide at St. Joseph's Hospital in 1962. She retired in 1977.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a great mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. She was a good cook and a wonderful baker, especially her bread and cinnamon rolls. She loved working in her tomato garden and had a terrific sense of humor.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Edward and Colleen Boucher of Estherville, Iowa, and Richard and Vicky Boucher of Marshalltown, Iowa; two daughters, Delores Jolin of Elk Point, S.D., and Juanita Vollmer and her husband Lee of Sioux City; a brother, Ray Chaussee of Midland, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Voncile Petersen; two brothers, Dick and Earl Chaussee; three sisters, Angeline Frost, Elsie Eslick and Stelle McPherson; two sons-in-law, Kenneth Jolin and Don C. Petersen; a daughter-in-law, Ann Boucher; a brother-in-law, Lester McPherson; and three sisters-in-law, Ruby Chaussee, Francis Chaussee and Ruth Chaussee.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Wesley Jolin, Dwain Jolin, Richard Boucher, Steve Boucher, Mick Petersen, Don Petersen, Todd Vollmer, Tom Vollmer, Terry Vollmer and Tim Vollmer.
