Myrna Jean Beuzekom

     Myrna Jean Beuzekom, 95, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2025, in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on November 9, 1929, in Alcester, South Dakota, Myrna was a vibrant spirit whose warmth and kindness touched everyone she encountered. Graduating from Alcester High School, she embarked on a remarkable career as an operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone, dedicating her skills and compassionate nature from 1948 until her retirement in 1986.

     On June 22, 1951, Myrna married the love of her life, Arnold “Buzz” Beuzekom, with whom she shared a deep and affectionate bond. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family that includes their two sons, Tom and his wife Sharon,and David and his wife Barbie. Myrna delighted in the joy brought to her life by her grandchildren: Jennifer and Matt Yusten, Brittany and Alex Schultz, Brandon Beuzekom and Savannah Brand, Sarah Beuzekom, Angela Conway and Rob Anderson; as well as her great-grandchildren, Katelyn Beuzekom, Colin Conway, and Eli Schultz.

      Throughout her life, Myrna was known as a true people person. Her welcoming and kind nature drew others to her, and she found immense joy in spending time with family and friends. Myrna loved the Lord and loved her church family. She was proud of her volunteer work, which included serving as chaplain for the Hornick American Legion Auxiliary and working at the June E. Nylen Cancer Center. Myrna was also a past board member at Telco Triad Credit Union and contributed her cleaning talents as part of the Sunnybrook Church kitchen staff.

     She is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Arnold “Buzz” Beuzekom; her infant son, Scott Richard Beuzekom; her parents, Ole and Stella Michaelson Buum; and her siblings, Milt, Milo, Marv, Merle Buum, and Marion LaBrune.

     As we gather to remember Myrna, we will celebrate a life filled with rich experiences and devotion to those she loved. Her legacy will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known her.

     Visitation will be held at Sunnybrook Community Church in Sioux City, Iowa, on February 8, 2025, from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 AM, leading to her burial at East View Cemetery in Sheldon, Iowa, at 1:15 PM. In this time of sorrow, let us remember the laughter, the compassion, and the warmth that Myrna Jean Beuzekom brought into our lives. She will be dearly missed but forever cherished in our hearts.
