Myrna Isabelle Elliott, 89, of Sioux City, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Laurie Van Cura officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Myrna's journey began on Oct. 24, 1927, in Sioux City, as the daughter of Marold and Frances (Jolley) Smith. She grew up in Sioux City and graduated from East High School.
On Oct. 17, 1950, she married her true love, Tom J. Elliott. They had three daughters, Sherrie, Bonnie and Beth. Tom passed away on July 31, 1978.
In addition to raising her daughters, Myrna worked for John Hancock Insurance, followed by the University of Iowa Specialized Child Health Clinics, from which she retired.
She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Among her numerous activities, Myrna enjoyed spending time with her four grandchildren, listening to music, and dancing. She loved painting, reading, and her dogs. Myrna could be counted on for good conversation and coffee at her home.
Survivors include her daughters, Bonnie (Hugh) Irwin and Beth (Steven) Hugunin; grandchildren, Katherine Irwin, Rachel Irwin, Alex Hugunin and Joel (Amanda) Hugunin; two sisters, Frances Piper and Maroldine Grabe; and a brother, Bruce (Sue) Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tom; daughter, Sherrie; and sister, Donnie Ann.
Memorials will be donated to AseraCare in Omaha.
The family thanks the caregivers at Crowell Memorial Home in Blair, Neb., and AseraCare Hospice for the wonderful care of Myrna and everything done for the family.
