Naaman "Paul" McAllister, 87, of Sioux City died April 12, 2016, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. B.J. Van Kalsbeek officiating. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Paul was born on April 5, 1929, in Decatur, Neb., to William and Pearl (Little) McAllister. Part of his childhood was spent on a farm near Decatur before his family moved into Decatur, where he graduated from high school in 1947. Paul enlisted in the U.S. Army the day after graduation, where he became a staff sergeant with the 4th Armored Division.
He married Beverly Hubregtse on Oct. 15, 1949, and attended Morningside College. Paul later worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad and retired after 38 years. After retirement, he and Beverly traveled to Arizona and Texas for the winter months.
Paul enjoyed gardening, playing pool, golfing, fishing and RVing. While working for the railroad, he was an active union member and officer. He was a member of the Elks Club and Sunnybrook Community Church.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly McAllister; son, Dr. James (Lynn) McAllister; daughter, Paula Jo (Glen) Page; grandchildren, Cara (Mark) Sweat, Jessica McAllister, and Mark (Megan) McAllister; great-grandchildren, Garrett, Andrew, and Lauren Sweat; and a sister, Louise (Steve) Serbeck.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Carol, Jerry, Donald and Bill; and a sister, Pauline.
