Nancy Theresa Harrison, 86, Sioux City, passed into the arms of Christ to await the resurrection of the dead, on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, after a brief illness. She was at home and surrounded by family.
Services will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024, at Calvary Lutheran Church (4400 Central St., Sioux City, IA), at 10:30 am Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 pm, Sunday, June 16, 2024, at church with prayer service at 6:00 pm. with visitation 9:00 – 10:30 am before service on Monday. Interment will be held at Banner Township Cemetery, Lawton, IA. Rev. James Travis will officiate at the service, and Rev. Matthew C. Harrison will officiate at the committal.

Nancy was born in Sioux City on St. Valentine’s Day 1938 to Leo and Theresa (Choquette) Vondrak. Nancy was baptized March 14, 1938, and was confirmed on April 1, 1962. She was a 1956 graduate of Central High School. She married Carl Wesley Harrison in 1957 and they celebrated 67 years of marriage on June 7, 2024. In 1981 the Harrisons moved to Omaha where Carl was CFO for Owen Industries. She was a long-term employee at Northwestern Bell in Sioux City and Omaha. After retirement they returned to Sioux City. For 25 years she and Carl hosted Fourth of July celebrations at their rural Hinton home, welcoming family and friends from near and far. Nancy and Carl were faithful members of Bethel Lutheran, Lawton, Iowa; Redeemer, Sioux City; Divine Shepherd, Omaha and for the past 25 years, Calvary LCMS in Leeds. Nancy was active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League from 1957, and Ruth’s Circle at Calvary. She served for many years in leadership for the St. Luke’s Hospital (Unity Point) Auxiliary. She spent the past two years in Pioneer Valley Living and Rehab.
Nancy was survived by her husband Carl, was a mother to Dan Harrison (wife Dena and Children Alexa Maloney and Christine DeWitt), Matthew Harrison (wife Kathy, and Children Matthew and Mark), Catherine Waymaster (husband Brian and children Danielle and Michael). Son Dan passed away in 2017. She was recently predeceased by her sister Colleen Lafferty. Nancy is also survived by siblings Richard Vondrak, Doug Vondrak, Suzanne Mitchel. She was actively involved and interested in the lives of her grandchildren and their spouses, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and their children and many others.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Calvary Lutheran Church Building Fund or LCMS Mission Central.
