Nancy Jean Jarvis (Mackintosh)

HINTON, Iowa -- Nancy J. Jarvis, 76, of Hinton died Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hinton United Methodist Church, with Rev. Kolleen Queenen officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 7 Sunday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.

Nancy was born Oct. 4, 1935, in Livermore, Iowa, to Hartley and Grace Mackintosh. She graduated from Livermore High School and received a teaching certificate from Morningside College. Nancy taught school in Harlock and Salix, Iowa.

She married Lee Jarvis on Aug. 10, 1958, in Livermore. They lived in Sioux City until 1965, when they moved to a farm near Hinton. They celebrated 53 years of marriage this year. To this union one daughter and three sons were born.

Nancy was a member of the Hinton United Methodist Church, where she held various offices and participated in different church activities. She had been a 4-H leader, volunteered at Hinton School in their reading program and at the school library. Nancy also volunteered at the Morningside Branch of the Sioux City Library. She enjoyed traveling, going to Morningside College events, reading, sewing, crafts and keeping scrapbooks about family and related events. Nancy was a great letter writer and was very proud of her children, seven grandchildren and great-grandchild.

Survivors include husband, Lee Jarvis of Hinton; three sons, Steven Jarvis of Peterson, Iowa, David and Deanna Jarvis of Sioux City, and Brent and Nicole Jarvis of Hinton; a daughter, Kim and Doug Toliver of Sac City, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Laina and Matt Edwards, Jamie Toliver and special friend, Ryan Stapleton, Mitchel Jarvis, Mac Jarvis, Marcus Jarvis, Austin Jarvis and Haylee Jarvis; a great-grandchild, Jack Edwards; brother, Hugh and Carol Mackintosh of Fredericksburg, Iowa; and three sisters, Phyllis and DeWitt Killam of Minneapolis, Esther Mackintosh and special friend, John Celli of Washington D.C., and Miriam and Dave Beam of West Milton, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents; mother and father-in-law, Genevieve and Paul Jarvis; and a sister-in-law, Paula Yeager.
