CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa -- Nancy Ann Zahnley, 68, of Correctionville died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City, with the Rev. Jeff Moes officiating. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be posted at www.christysmith.com .
Nancy was born Feb. 27, 1943, in Battle Creek, Iowa, to Levon and Regina (Erlemeier) Ernst. She grew up in Danbury, Iowa, and attended Danbury Catholic School, graduating in 1961.
Nancy married Wayne K. Zahnley on June 30, 1962, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury. The couple moved to a farm near Correctionville and raised seven children, Robert, James, Gina, Glenda, David, Douglas and Dean.
Nancy provided daycare services for 26 years in her home in Correctionville to many families in the area. Her love of children was a big part of her being a daycare provider. She loved all animals, especially her horse Fancy, and flower gardening, especially her roses. Nancy also loved to people-watch and go to the sale barn with her husband, Wayne.
Nancy's family was very important to her. She loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne K. Zahnley; sons, Robert (Donna) Zahnley of Cherokee, Iowa, James (Brenda) Zahnley of Correctionville, David (Dawn) Zahnley of Anthon, Iowa, Douglas Zahnley of Cushing, Iowa, and Dean Zahnley (fiancee' Melissa Barnes) of Correctionville; daughters, Gina (Marvin) Handke of Correctionville and Glenda Janssen of Kingsley, Iowa; grandchildren, Jason Zahnley, Dillon Janssen, Abby, Dawson and Drew Zahnley, Tanner, Kennedy, Tucker, Delaney and Sydney Zahnley; two great-grandchildren, Zada and Jalayna Zahnley; three sisters, Bonnie Ernst of Sioux City, Diane (Gary) Wittsche of Houston, Texas, and Gloria (Mike) Hahn of Mapleton, Iowa; three brothers, Ron (Jolene) Ernst of Ida Grove, Iowa, Randy (Deb) Ernst of Mapleton and Rick (Janet) Ernst of Battle Creek, Neb.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and infant sister, Jean Marie Ernst; a nephew, Jeremy Ernst; and her aunt and uncle, Helen and Dick Flammang.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
