Norma J. Coon

Norma J. Coon, 91, died Sunday December 24, 2023, at a local assisted living facility in Sioux City, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Friday, December 29, 2023, at Mater Dei Parish-Church of the Nativity with visitation one hour prior.  Burial will be in the Oto Cemetery in Oto, IA.  Christy-Smith Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.christysmith.com.

Norma J. Cox, the daughter of De Witt and Margaret (Mortensen) Cox was born November 6, 1932, in Oto, IA.  She received her bachelor’s degree in teaching and went on to teach Elementary School for 32 years. 

On September 8, 1951, Norma was united in marriage with Cecil Coon in Oto.  She taught at the Anthon-Oto School and the Dubuque, IA schools, retiring in 1995.  Cecil died December 29, 1995.

Norma was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Norma is survived by her children, Jeanne (Rob) Wagner of North Liberty, IA, James (Debbie) Coon of Lonsdale, MN; grandchildren, Matthew, Alex, Hannah, and Kylie; great-grandchildren, Aidan, Connor, Alexis, and Blake; and a sister, Judy Specht of Yankton, SD.  She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Virginia Steinhoff, Lavonne Millarke, and Marcia Pruehs; and a nephew, Tim Millarke.
