Norma A. Starr, 76, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Norma was born on Feb. 5, 1940, in Akron, Iowa, to Elmer and Helen (Marbach) Hoffman. She attended country school Stanton 3 and Le Mars (Iowa) Schools from seventh to 12th grade.
She was united in marriage to George Starr on May 1, 1960, in Le Mars at St. John's American Lutheran Church. They met while working together at Sioux Tools. The couple then moved to Sioux City. Norma worked as a waitress in Le Mars out of high school; she later worked at Sioux Tools. She was a teachers aide for Leeds Elementary School for many years. She also ran Starr Bakery and Catering and worked at the Half Price Store.
Norma enjoyed gardening, baking, crafts, and her grandchildren. She had a special passion for animals, especially her dog, Cocoa. She was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church and Girls of '68.
Those left to honor her memory include her son, Tim (Sheila) Starr of Salix, Iowa; daughter, Hope (Guts) Goodknight of Moville, Iowa; grandchildren, Darcy Starr and Terry Stuhrenberg, Jaik Bieler, Brandon Bieler, Beckbackster Goodknight; sister, Karen (Thomas) Johnson of Federal Way, Wash.; sister-in-laws, Jean Hoffman of Seattle, Wash., and Lilas Hoffman of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; and brothers, Gerald "Jerry" Hoffman and Doug Hoffman.
