Opal M. Hayes, 93, of Sioux City, died December 14, 2019 following a brief illness.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Opal M. Capps was born January 14, 1926 in Hinsdale, MT, the daughter of Don and Lila (Burrowes) Capps. In 1942 she graduated from high school in Villisca, Iowa. Opal married Phil B. Hayes on July 24, 1943 in Washington, DC. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1978. They were married 70 years before Phil had passed away.
Opal was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed being part of the Crimson Glories Red Hat Society. Opal began dancing at the age of 9 and continued dancing her whole life. She also did Tap Dances at Senior Center which is called “Happy Hoofers.” Opal was a regular customer at Milwaukee Weiner House, where she was treated like family.
Opal is survived by one son, Stephen (Chyna); 2 daughters, Linda and Sharon; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Wanda; and her Visiting Angel, Diane.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Phil; son, Alan; sister and brother in-law, Donna and Donald Patton.
