Patricia A. Haupt, 89, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Church of the Nativity. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a rosary at 6 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Patricia was born on Aug. 10, 1925, in Sioux City, to Raymond and Marguerite (Hill) Gatens. She graduated from Central High School in 1943 and then attended the University of Iowa.
She met her future husband through the USO during World War II. She was united in marriage to William Phillip Haupt. He preceded her in death in 1978. Patricia owned and operated Gatens Printing Co. from 1979 to 1984, a business originally started by her father, then later run by her husband and then Patricia. She also worked at Clarkson Printing and Major Graphics before retiring in July 1993.
Patricia was a longtime member of Cathedral of the Epiphany and Church of the Nativity. She was active in scouting, volunteer work, Martha Washington Chapter of D.A.R., and the Soroptimist Club.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Stephen (Eleanor) Haupt of Beavercreek, Ohio, Karen Thornton of Sioux City, and Gregg (Michele) Haupt of Sioux City; daughter-in-law, Vicki Haupt of Arden Hills, Minn.; five grandchildren: Amanda & Tom Rhymer, Mary & Chris Crytzer, Beth Haupt, Katie Haupt, Derek & Patti Plymate; and 11 great-grandchildren: Sydney, Jade, and Samantha Swick; Sean & Sydney McKae, Slade, and Brayden Rhymer; Matthew and James Crytzer; Allison and Christopher Plymate .
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and son, Michael Haupt.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the American Cancer Society or the Siouxland Freedom Park.
