Patricia Rose "Pat" Hinrichsen (Blake)

SIOUX CITY -- Patricia R. Hinrichsen, 74, of Sioux City passed away on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital, after a courageous battle against lymphoma.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Trimble United Methodist Church, 1424 27th Street, Sioux City, with the Rev. Martha Anderson officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow the service. Burial will be in Crawford Heights Memorial Cemetery at Denison, Iowa. Visitation will be 3:30 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, 2230 Outer Drive, Sioux City. Pat was born Feb. 4, 1937, in Akron, Iowa, to William J. and Edith G. (Stutzman) Blake. She married LaWayne E. Hinrichsen on Jan. 2, 1955, and was his loyal and loving wife for 56 years. They had six children, Ronda, Linda, Beth, Michael, Gary and Rebecca.
Despite her hectic schedule, she created many beautiful quilts and knitted blankets. She enjoyed being a family historian, reading, following the NBA career of Kirk Hinrich and keeping in touch with her extended family and friends. She was a lifelong learner and continually found new subjects to explore including politics, NFL football and cooking.
Pat was an active member of Trimble United Methodist Church. She loved being a volunteer of the church's Monday Afterschool Friends Club and was known for her special way of relating to children. She built a long legacy of volunteering including many years with Girl Scouts, the United Church of Christ and the Sioux City Gospel Mission as well as being an active parent volunteer for all six of her children's school activities. Pat was an enthusiastic cheerleader at many youth sporting events for both her children and her grandchildren. In addition to her own children, Pat welcomed with open arms any child who needed love, attention or just a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Pat is survived by her husband, LaWayne; her children, Ronda Sweet of New Orleans, La., Linda Janssen of Little Elm, Texas, Beth Hinrichsen of Dallas, Texas, Michael and his wife, Dana of Akron, Iowa, Gary and his wife, Kim of Sioux City, and Rebecca Budd and her husband, John of Dallas, Texas; her grandchildren, Scott Janssen of Lewisville, Texas, Emily Sweet of Tulsa, Okla., Jennifer Hinrichsen of Wichita, Kan., Eric Hinrichsen of Sioux City, Steven Hinrichsen of Des Moines, Iowa, Jonathan Hinrichsen of Wichita, Kan., Sarah Tucker of Des Moines, Iowa, Caitlin Janssen of Frisco, Texas, Jordan Hinrichsen of Sioux City, Jayson Hinrichsen of Sioux City, Jackie Budd and Marcus Budd, both of Dallas, Texas; great-grandchildren, Brooke Edwards, Caden Castro, Melody Castro, Alyssa Tucker and Andrew Tucker; and her siblings, Shirley Ruth Peck of Wichita, Kan., and James Russell Blake of Chandler, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Jennings Blake and Edith Genevieve Stutzman Blake Brooks; and her siblings, Glenn Richard Blake, William Robert Blake, Donna Rae McKenzie and Ronald Ross Blake.
