Patricia Jo Thomas (Murphy)

SIOUX CITY -- Patricia J. Thomas, 76, of Sioux City went to be with the Lord unexpectedly Sunday, July 26, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Alan Wicks officiating. Graveside services will be Thursday in Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene, Iowa. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Northside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Patsy Jo Murphy was born May 16, 1933, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Delores (MacCumber) and Roscoe Murphy. She graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1952.

She and Darrell Thomas were married Nov. 22, 1952, at Zion Lutheran Church in Waterloo. They moved to Sioux City in 1972. She was an employee of St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in the social services department and home health care for 25 years, retiring on Dec. 24, 2004.

She was a gifted artist, with a beautiful voice which sang out at many weddings. She was a Stephen's minister and active in the quilting projects at First Lutheran Church. Her love for others was shown through the gift of listening and laughter. She took great delight in her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Darrell of Sioux City; her daughters, Rebecca (Allen) Seehusen of Arley, Ala., and Tammy (Michael) Mahaney of Sioux City; grandchildren, Ann (Curtis) Brown of Acworth, Ga., Justin (Kimberly) Seehusen of Phenix City, Ala., Tyler (Ashley) Seehusen of Birmingham, Ala., and Mariah and Connor Mahaney of Sioux City; and great-grandsons, William and Jackson Brown of Acworth, Ga. She loved her sisters-in-law, Marvlyn, Joyce and Kathryn, as her own sisters. She also leaves behind many beloved nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Seehusen, Tony Elliott, Todd Elliott, Nick Elliott, Ann Brown and Mariah Mahaney. Honorary pallbearers will be Capt. Justin Seehusen and Curtis Brown. Candlebearer will be Connor Mahaney.
