Paul S. Mahaffie, 73, died Monday, September 9, 2024, at a local hospital in Sioux City, IA. 

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Paul S. Mahaffie, the son of John and Ruby (Reed) Mahaffie was born September 11, 1950, in Kansas City, MO. He graduated from high school in La Mirada, CA in 1969. After working for a time at General Mills, he started working for Fruehauf Trailers.

On June 18, 1981, Paul was united in marriage with Susan (Criswell) Chappell in Omaha, NE. The couple moved back to Sioux City in 1994, and Paul went to work for Wick’s Truck Trailers in 1995. He joined the Gideons in 1997, then attended Kingsway Theological Seminary in Sioux City, graduating with an Associates degree in Theology. Paul served as Pastor at German City Church in rural Hornick, IA from 2005 until his recent illness and passing.

Paul retired from Wicks when he was appointed Executive Director of the Sioux City Gospel Mission in 2017 where he served until 2023. He was an artist of both pencil drawings and paintings. Paul greatly enjoyed Nebraska Cornhuskers football and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Paul is survived by his wife, Susan; stepdaughter, Lesley Kruse of White Bluff, TN; son, Sean Mahaffie of Sioux City; daughter, Hannah Mahaffie of Sioux City; four grandchildren; sister, Jonet (David) Jaggers of Leland, North Carolina; and many other relatives and friends.

The family has requested that memorials be directed to the Gideons or German City Church.
