SIOUX CITY -- Paul R. Miller, 77, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at his residence.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harold Werley officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Paul was born in Morrison, Iowa, on April 14, 1932, the son of Friend and Arlene (Reynolds) Miller. He was raised in the Morrison and Reinbeck, Iowa area. He graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1949. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1951 and served in Korea.

On June 24, 1951, he married Joyce L. Meyers in Grundy Center, Iowa. After the service, he returned to Iowa, where he farmed in the Morrison and Reinbeck area. He later moved to Sioux City and worked for Salsness Auto and Truck sales for 20 years. After he retired from Salsness, he went to work for William's T.V. He retired in 2000, due to poor health.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He had a great love for horses. He raised and showed Quarter horses. He coached two of his daughters showing horses, where they won many trophies and ribbons. He later raced horses in the Midwest, Texas, Oklahoma and Arizona.

Family was always the most important part of his life. He loved spending time with his wife, children and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Sioux City; three daughters, Deborah Hoffman, Cindy Dennison and Lisa Miller, all of Sioux City; his five grandchildren, Garret Hoffman, Tiffany (Erik) Wood, Sheri Christiansen, Tom (Shawna) Dennison and Tanya Dennison; eight great-grandchildren, Gage, Emma, Bennett, Aubree, Noah, Jake, Ty and Halle; his extended family, Hugh and Nancee Payne and their sons, Hugh and Keith; a sister, Donna (Robert) Brandt of Reinbeck, Iowa; a brother, James (Colleen) Miller of Grundy Center, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
