Rev. Paul C. Mueller

The Rev. Paul Carl Mueller, 92, of Sioux City passed away on Friday, June 13, 2014.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Lunch will follow the services. His body will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, where it will await the resurrection summons of our Lord Jesus Christ. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Paul was born Jan. 22, 1922, in Yankton, S.D., the son of Carl Henry and Frieda (nee Cloeter) Mueller. He was brought to the Lord in Baptism on Feb. 19 of the same year at St. John's Lutheran Church in Yankton. He renewed his Baptismal vows in the rite of Confirmation in the spring of 1936 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Columbia, S.D.
Paul attended public schools at Custer and rural Columbia, S.D., through grade 4. He completed his elementary grades at St. John's Lutheran parochial school, rural Columbia, S.D. His education continued at Concordia High School and Junior College in St. Paul, Minn., where he graduated in 1942. The next years were spent in St. Louis, Mo., at Concordia Seminary, where Paul graduated in the spring of 1946.
On June 30 of that year, Paul took A. Evelyn (Lyn) Grotelueschen as his bride at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Columbus, Neb. Paul accepted the call to Zion Lutheran Church, rural Bagley, Minn., also serving as missionary-at-large of the Minnesota District in that area. He was ordained and installed at Douglas Lodge, Itasca State Park on Aug. 11, 1946.
In the following years, he served several Minnesota parishes including St. Peter's, rural Goodhue and Bethany in Lake City; and Redeemer at New Ulm; also two parishes in Iowa, Trinity at Boone; and Redeemer in Sioux City, where he served for 14 years until retiring in 1987. Upon retiring he entered into contract with Faith at Sioux City for nine years to serve on a part-time basis. Since then he had assisted at Hope in South Sioux City, Redeemer in Sioux City, and many other area churches.
During the active years of his ministry Paul served his Minnesota and Iowa districts as circuit counselor, pastoral adviser to the LWML and the WL, and in Iowa District West as secretary of Christian education, 2nd vice president, and 1st vice president. He also served on the LCMS Synodical Commission on Appeals, the boards of Lutheran Family Services of Iowa, St. Luke's Regional Medical Center of Sioux City, and its Lutheran Hospital Association.
Pastor and Mrs. Mueller were blessed with five children. Survivors include daughters, Barbara (Ernie) Caruso of Alpharetta, Ga., Judith (Peter) Dabertin of Elmhurst, Ill., and Roxanne (Andrew) Smith of Ann Arbor, Mich.; sons, Steven (Sharon) Mueller of Great Falls, Mont., and the Rev. Peter Mueller of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Karl (Angele) Mueller, Kurt (Rachel) Mueller, Jakob Smith and Michael Dabertin; stepgrandchildren, Joe (Kim) Caruso and Lisa (Michael) Rodenhiser; two great-grandchildren; and eight great-stepgrandchildren.
Pastor Mueller is survived by his two brothers, Rev. Arnold Mueller and Roland Mueller; and one sister, Irene Ringers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and his wife.
