Paul A. Patterson, 74, of Sioux City passed away Monday, July 1, 2013, at a local hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Morningside Chapel, Christy Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
Paul was born on July 25, 1938, in Salix, Iowa, the son of Paul and Mary (Donahue) Patterson. He grew up in Salix and graduated from St. Joseph High School. Paul joined the U.S. Army in 1956 and served in Vietnam and Lebanon, later switching to the U.S. Navy and retiring in 1978. He was a long haul trucker, logging in more than a million miles before working as a computer programmer for IBP.
He married Cathryn in 1980 in Castana, Iowa. She died in 1982.
Paul was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, many fraternal orders, and was a longtime supporter of the Humane Society. He also volunteered at Dattamac’s Inc., and was a ham radio operator. He was a jack-of-all-trades.
He is survived by his sisters, JoAnn Baxley of California, and Eva Mae Caldwell of Washington; and brother, Robert Patterson of Montana.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Cathryn.
