Paul W. Sweeney Jr., 74, of Sioux City died Sunday, April 6, 2008, at Countryside Senior Living following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daniel C. Guenther officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.
Paul was born Oct. 12, 1933, in Sioux City, the son of Paul W. Sweeney Sr. and Margaret Schon. He graduated from Climbing Hill (Iowa) High School and Morningside College in Sioux City. He received his master's degree in education from Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio.
He lived in the Moville, Iowa, area in his early years and moved to Sioux City around 1958. He taught at Westwood Community School in Sloan, Iowa.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was an avid reader and enjoyed following the stock market.
He is survived by a brother, Richard L. Sweeney of Tampa, Fla.; two nieces, Lisa Akre and Lori Weise, both of Portland, Ore.; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Mary Theresa Middleton.
