Paul David "Dave" Urban, 75, of Sioux City died on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015, at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Zirpel of Redeemer Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at Van Meter. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Dave was born May 17, 1940, in Primghar, Iowa, to Paul and Dorothy (Lanham) Urban. He grew up in Northwest Iowa, graduating from Le Mars High School in 1959. He entered the U.S. Army on March 11, 1960, and served until he retired on March 31, 1980. He served three tours in Vietnam and one tour each in Korea and Germany. He also served at various bases in the Unites States. Dave was very proud of having served in the Army. After his retirement he earned a bachelor’s degree in social work at Briar Cliff University. He worked for Siouxland Mental Health for more than 10 years before retiring.
He married Gloria Bookhart on June 12, 1971, at Grace United Methodist Church in Sioux City. The couple has three sons, Shane, Brian, and Brett.
Dave belonged to the 101st Airborne Association, VFW and the Morningside American Legion Post 697.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his four granddaughters. He also enjoyed having coffee with his friends.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Urban; sons, Shane Urban, Brian and Stephanie Urban, and Brett and Joy Urban; four granddaughters, Alexis, Alyssa, Madisyn and Camryn; brother, Don and Alisa Urban; and sister-in-law, Nancy Bookhart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Dorothy Urban.
