SIOUX CITY -- Paula Marie O'Neill, 56, formerly of Sioux City passed away on March 9, 2012, in Peoria, Ariz., after a long, courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. The Rev. Paul Albenesius will officiate. Burial of the ashes will be at a later date in St. John Cemetery, Bancroft, Iowa. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
Paula was born on Sept. 20, 1955, in Bancroft, Iowa, the daughter of Gordon Julias and Mary Katherine (Ball) Bollig. She was raised in Bancroft and graduated from St. John High School in Bancroft. She then moved to Sioux City, where she graduated from St. Luke's School of Nursing and received her R.N. She later attended Creighton University, where earned her degree as a nurse practitoner. She worked at St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City, and was the director of nursing at Indian Hills Care Center.
She moved to Cody, Wyo., where she worked for an orthopedic surgeon. Paula then returned to Sioux City and worked in the radiation/oncology area at the Siouxland Cancer Center. She then moved to Fountain Hills, Ariz., and went to work at the Mayo Clinic Oncology Unit in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Paula married Mick Wilson on May 5, 1975, in Sioux City. They later divorced. She married Jerry O'Neill on March 17, 1995, in Ponca, Neb. He died on Jan. 31, 2007, in Jackson, Neb.
Paula loved traveling, shopping and spending time with family and friends. She also loved music and dancing.
She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Maya and Joshua Tobias of Sioux City; three stepdaughters, Samantha and Joseph Koktan of Marshall, Minn., Molly O'Neill of Sioux City, and Yeshuah and Verlin Kauhane of Hawaii; a stepson, Brandon O'Neill and his wife, Athyr of Fort Collins, Colo.; five grandchildren, Madison, Emily, Xaria, Ohia and Jerrica; four sisters, Rita Enriquez of Long Beach, Calif., Jane and Clifford Leslie of Bolingbrook, Ill., Nancy and Randy Guill of Laurens, Iowa, and Sandy and Jim Hershey of Mason City, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Diane; and a brother-in-law, Javier Enriquez.
