SERGEANT BLUFF -- Paula B. Wood, 73, of Sergeant Bluff died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, in Sioux City.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Community United Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff, with the Rev. Deborah Stowers and the Rev. Dr. Paul Samuelson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Paula was born Oct. 4, 1934, in Smithland, Iowa, the daughter of Austin and Vema (Hobbs) McLarty. She attended school and graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School.
She married George Wood on Aug. 9, 1964. She worked for Sioux Valley Credit Union, Orkin and later as a teller at Pioneer Bank. George died Nov. 17, 1991.
She enjoyed visiting with the customers at the bank and continued to work until she became ill. She was a member of Community United Methodist Church, where she played the organ for many years. She also was a member of the Heritage Club. she loved spending time with her grandchildren and taking them to musical events. She also enjoyed bowling.
Survivors include two sons, Ron and Margaret Wood of Salix, Iowa, and Doug Wood of Sergeant Bluff; a daughter, Linda Wood of Des Moines; five grandchildren, Rachel, Sarah, Misty, Stormy and Rayna; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Ella and Fred Nelsen of Salix, Iowa; a brother, Sam and Bunny McLarty of Sergeant Bluff; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Wood; a daughter-in-law, Lynn Wood; and two brothers, Richard and Ronald McLarty.
