Sioux City - Pearl Fulton, 85, formerly of Sioux City, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, Nov. 26, 2013, at St. Anthony's Hospital in Carroll, Iowa. She was surrounded by family at her time of passing.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2039 S. St. Aubin St. in Sioux City, with the Rev. Jay Denne officiating. Visitation will be noon until service time Monday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Pearl was born April 3, 1928, in Mapleton, Iowa, to Carl and Lucille (Pranschke) Hesse. Pearl attended country school through the eighth grade. She received her GED later in life at Trinity College. She helped with the work on the farm, along with her brothers. She came to Sioux City in 1955 via Danbury and Ute. Some of her first jobs included working in a country store, taking in ironing, cleaning houses, cooking for "Chicken and Honey," where she met the love of her life, a delivery boy named Frank. Later, she cooked for the Truck Haven Cafe, and finally ran a day care center out of her home for 20 years.
She married Frank Fulton on Feb. 2, 1958, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Ruth Circle, Altar Guild, Past President of Abu-Bekr Clownetts and Campers. She was a Hospital Mom at the Shrine Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn. She was chaplain of Daughters of the Nile 38, a member of Eastern Star of Morningside 502, a Girl Scout Brownie leader, auxiliary for Abu-Bekr, an auxiliary member of the American Legion of Charter Oak, a member of the Siouxland Country Music Association, and served as secretary for the Gem and Mineral Society. Lastly, was her love for shopping and yodeling.
Survivors include two daughters, Tina (Dale) Wolterman of Carroll, Iowa, and Shelly Peterson and Bill Twohig of South Sioux City; son, Frank (Grace) Fulton of Sioux City; brother, Carl (Charlene) Hesse of Sioux City; sister-in-law, Cora Jean Hesse of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Christina (Shaun) Haulk of Carroll, Ashley (Michael) Heard of Carroll, Shane (Betsy) Peterson of Sacramento, Calif., Brandi (Steve) Lockmiller of Sioux City, Stacey (Dave) Vondrak of Hinton, Iowa, and Frank Fulton III of Sioux City; 11 great-grandchildren, Eli, Tiana and Hailey Haulk, Aliyah Heard, Matt, Storm and Chase Peterson, Tyler Boris and Dakota Lockmiller, Brandon and Hannah Vondrak; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lucille and Carl Hesse; her husband, Frank Fulton; three brothers, Vern, Virgil and twin brother, Earl Hesse; a brother-in-law, Harry Fulton; and two sisters-in-law, Betty Hesse and Bille Fulton.
Honorary pallbearers are her six grandchildren, Shane Peterson, Brandi Lockmiller, Christina Haulk, Ashley Heard, Stacey Vondrak and Frank Fulton III.
The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the doctors and nurses of the third floor at St Anthony's Hospital in Carroll.
