Philip Edwards

Philip H. Edwards, 90, of Sioux City, died Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel. Condolences may be made at www.christysmith.com .
Philip was born March 31, 1926, in Magnolia, Iowa, to Guy and Miranda (Alden) Edwards. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Magnolia. He joined the U.S. Army 102nd Infantry Division on July 22, 1944. He earned the rank of staff sergeant and was honorably discharged June 26, 1946.
He married Peggy J. Kenny Oct. 19, 1946, in Logan, Iowa. They had three boys, Keith, Roger and Gary.
After his military service, Philip returned to Magnolia for a short time before moving to Sioux City and working at several different garages, including Wilson Motors, Coon Motors and Noltze Motors, before starting his own garage, Edwards Topline Transmissions Inc. Philip semi-retired in 2002 and continued to work until his health failed. He truly loved his career as an auto mechanic.
He was past president of the Iowa Independent Garage Owners Association, and Edwards Topline Transmission Inc. His family and faith were a big part of his life. Philip is a former deacon of Billy Sunday Tabernacle, and served as a Sunday school teacher.
His hobbies were bowling, fishing and spending time with his family. Philip and Peggy enjoyed trips to Nashville, Tenn., Niagara Falls, N.Y., and Branson, Mo.
Survivors include his sons, Keith (Nancee) Edwards of Westfield, Iowa, Roger (Jackie) Edwards of Sioux City and Gary (Connie) Edwards of Kansas City, Mo.; 12 grandchildren, Kim (Scott) Ferguson of Arlington, Va., Randy (Rae) Edwards of Mesa, Ariz., Matthew (Rica) Edwards of Bedford, Ind., Mark (Karrie) Edwards of South Sioux City, Miranda Edwards of Sioux City, Tyler Edwards of Kansas City, Mo., Zachary Edwards of Sioux City, Jed Edwards of Denver, Colo., Lucas Edwards of Vermillion, S.D., Jennifer (Jason) Alwood of Kansas City, Mo., Brandon (Christina) Thomsen of Beaufort, S.C., and Clint (Corena) Thomsen of Moville, Iowa; 25 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ralph (Elsie) Edwards of Phoenix, Ariz., and Ira (Margaret) Edwards of Medford, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Robert, Joe, Arlus and John; and two sisters, Olive Hodges and Eunice Gibson.
