Phil was born on Dec 4, 1942 in Burlington IA, the son of Kenneth Osborne and Harriet (Gauss) Osborne Buttrick. He obtained his master’s degree in counseling from the University of Iowa and worked as a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the State of Iowa for over 25 years. He became fluent in the Russian language during his service in the United States Air Force from March 1964 - January 1968.
Philip married Regene Lynette Kounkel on May 29, 1971 and to this marriage two daughters were born: Tonya Jean and Keri Jean. Sadly, Regene entered eternal rest in January 1998.
Phil was introduced to Lynet Jean (Dose) Loker by her sister, Lori. They were married on January 25, 2003. Together they successfully blended their two families. Family was very important in his life and he devoted much of his time sharing his musical love and talents with them. He was generous with his fatherly advice and counseling.
He was extremely involved in the music ministry at Morningside Lutheran Church playing the guitar for worship services. Music continued to be a major focus throughout his life and he even wrote some of his own music. He was a well known computer whiz and could be a “tinker extraordinaire” around the house. He loved watching his favorite sports on the television with sometimes six screens on at a time. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Minnesota Vikings fan.
Survivors include his wife, Lynet; children Tonya (Wayne) Kvame of Lafayette, CO; Keri (Douglas) Beetner of Shoreview, MN; Linda (Joe Liddick) Wiser, of Council Bluffs, IA; and Don Loker of Liberty, Mo; Phil’s 14 beloved grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren plus two on the way; his siblings, David Osborne; Joan (Ron) Fredrickson; Lori (Paul) Anderson; his siblings-in-law, Lori (Rick) Estes, Ann Dose; and Marlys Dose; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and many extended family and friends.
