P.J. "Jerry" O'Connor Jr., 66, of Sioux City passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital while recovering from heart surgery.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Christy-Smith Larkin Chapel. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to

Jerry was born March 2, 1941, in Sioux City, to Phillip and Marie (Boyd) O'Connor Sr. He grew up and attended Sioux City schools. He later attended Morningside College.
On July 12, 1988, he married Julie A. Gilbertson in Sioux City. He was a lifelong Sioux City resident. He was the owner of Communication Services INC of North Sioux City, which started as Prichard Towers in 1970 with Ted Prichard. He also owned and operated several nightclubs in the Sioux City area. He and his wife owned and operated Platinum Properties. He most recently started Automotive Associates Towing.
He was of the Catholic faith. Some of his favorite pastimes included negotiating in antique shops, he was an avid collector going antiquing with his wife and reading. He had a great love for animals and loved conversing with others on all topics. For those who were lucky enough to meet him, they had a lifelong friend.
Survivors include his wife, Julie; a sister, Joan O'Connor of Sioux City; a brother-in-law, Hank Gilbertson of Jefferson, S.D.; a sister-in-law, Melissa Gilbertson of Sioux City; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful companions, The Big Boy, an Airedale Redmond, and two schnauzers, Perry and Ava.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Patsy Carson.
