Phyllis Mae Joy, 91, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015, at a Sioux City hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Phyllis was born on April 30, 1924, in Sioux City, the daughter of Dr. Stanley and Viola (Ritchie) Rogers. She attended school in Sioux City and graduated from East High School.
Phyllis married Irvin "Shorty" Joy on Aug. 1, 1942, in Fremont, Neb. They made their home in Sioux City. Over the years, Phyllis worked at several retail stores around the area. Shorty died in 1993.
In her earlier years, Phyllis enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing cards. In her retirement years, she and her husband enjoyed their winters in Texas and summers in Minnesota. Phyllis loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many friends at the Shire Apartments, where she had resided for the last 22 years. She was currently living at Floyd Place in Sergeant Bluff. Phyllis was a former member of Third Presbyterian Church in Sioux City, and at the time of her death had been attending Holly Springs Open Bible Fellowship.
She is survived by four daughters, Judy (Jerry) Weimer, Jeraldine (Richard) Wyant, Janice (John) Sheehan and Joan Miille, all of Sioux City; eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, Kimberly Glazebrook and her children, Dustin, Jesse, and Cory, Steve (Amy) Weimer and their children, Quentin and Sullivan, Stacy (Aaron) Junge and their children, Carter and Addyson, Chad (Anna) Sheehan and their children, Bailey, Scout, Alyssa, Liam, Bennett, Melissa (Jeremy) Helmers and their children, Jamison and Makenna, Kristi (Barry) Weiland and their children, Mallory and Mia, Jim (Andrea) Miille and their children, Evan and Carson, and Tara Smith and her children, Chole and Preston; a sister, Doris Pearson of Des Moines; and a brother, Robert (Patricia) Rogers of Sioux City; Nieces, Nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Shorty; son-in-law, Don Miille; and grandson-in-law, Todd Glazebrook.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Siouxland PACE, the staff at Floyd Place, and the nurses on the fifth floor at Unity Point, for all of the wonderful care they gave to Phyllis.
