Rachel A. Storm, 83, of Sioux City died Friday, Nov. 21, 2014 at a local nursing home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Morningside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Tom LoVan officiating. Burial will be 9 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., with the Rev. Darrin Vick officiating, at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes. Rachel was born July 17, 1931, in Linn Grove, Iowa, to Hiram R. and Agnes L. (Fonley) Hanson. She grew up in Linn Grove and attended Linn Grove Public Schools, a member of the class of 1948.
Rachel married Charles "Chuck" E. Storm on June 28, 1947, at Sioux Rapids, Iowa. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1952. Rachel worked as a teacher’s aide at Riverside School for several years.
She loved to spend time with her family, and she loved to travel. Rachel was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church, and belonged to various women’s groups at church. Rachel was famous for hosting her lutefisk dinners.
Survivors include a son, Larry and Beth Storm of Dakota Dunes, and their two children, Stephanie and Jason Robertson, and their son, Beck, and Alison and Tim Lowry and their son, Sam; son, David and Sarah Storm of Sioux City, and their four children, Mark and Melissa Storm and their son, Max, Leah and Nick Book and their daughter, Ella, Andrew and Lacey Storm and their two sons, Ryder and Jaxon, Anna and Brad Lindgren and their two children, Dillon and Bristol; daughter, Tammy Carter of Sioux City and her three children, Matthew and Brandi Minter and their three children, Helena, Kerah and Elijah, Drake Carter and Grace Carter; daughter, Jennifer Meredith of Sioux City and her son, Isaac Johnson; and two brothers, John Hanson and Harold Hanson and his wife, April; sister, Donna Benson; and numerous nieces and nephews
Preceding her in death are her husband; daughter, Laurie Hechtner; an infant son, Thomas Storm; her parents; two brothers, James Hanson and Robert Hanson; and two sisters, Janet Angert and Carol Norton
