MOVILLE, Iowa -- Ralph John Byers, 89, of Moville died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Salem Lutheran Church in rural Correctionville, Iowa, with the Rev. Bert Burwell officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith McCulloch Chapel in Moville. Condolences may be sent online to

Ralph was born July 11, 1918, in Rock Branch, Iowa, the son of Henry and Lottie (Hinkhouse) Byers. He was raised around the rural Correctionville area. He attended school and graduated from Correctionville High School in 1936. He had worked at Karsten Implement Co. in Pierson, Iowa, for a few years.
He married Margaret M. Rippke on Nov. 6, 1941, at Salem Lutheran Church. They moved to a farm outside of Lawton, Iowa, following their marriage. They shortly moved to the present farm outside of Moville, where he spent most of his life tending to his land and farming.
He was a very active member of Salem Lutheran Church and loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; a daughter, Karen and Gary Iverson of Mitchell, S.D.; three sons, Craig and Nancy Byers of Isanti, Minn., Kevin and LaVonne Byers of Kingsley, Iowa, and Clark Byers of Moville; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to Salem Lutheran Church or Hospice of Siouxland.
