SIOUX CITY -- Ralph J. Schnurr, 77, of Sioux City died Dec. 24, 2010, at Touchstone Living Center.
Memorial services will be held in the spring. Mr. Schnurr was cremated. Burial of the cremated remains will be in St. Joseph Cemetery at Granville, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to christysmoth.com.
Ralph Schnurr was born on Aug. 15, 1933, in Granville, Iowa, the son of Henry and Anna (Ahlers) Schnurr. He was raised in Granville, and moved to Sioux City in approximately 1973. He was employed at the Hank Most Salvage Yard in Granville for many years. He then moved to Paullina, Iowa, to work for a brick and tile company. When he came to Sioux City, he worked for the Sioux City Brick & Tile Co. He retired in 1998.
He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City. Ralph was an excellent baseball player in his younger years and played for a number of teams in the Granville area. He enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves on television. He also was a very good artist and enjoyed drawing.
Survivors include his sister, Florence A. Kosse of Springdale, Ark.; a niece, Lynda Fergen and her husband, Steve of Sioux City; nephews, Michael Martin and his wife, Sandy of Sioux City, and Steve Martin of Jefferson, S.D.; as well as other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Gwen M. Martin; and two brothers, Stanphones and Cornelius Schnurr.
