Ralph Treiber, 84, of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, at his residence.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Church. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, with a rosary at 4 p.m., and a prayer service at 6 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Ralph was born on Feb. 11, 1932, in Danbury, Iowa, to August and Elisabeth (Koll) Treiber. He graduated from Danbury High School and was in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953.
He was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Petersen on June 4, 1953, in Schaller, Iowa, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Ralph was employed at the Sioux City Stockyards for 35 years.
He enjoyed reading, watching Westerns on TV, and spending time with his family, especially his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also loved going to rummage sales and sharing his newly found treasures with others. Ralph faced his battle with cancer courageously. He never complained, he just kept living life. He was the strongest man we’ve ever met. He relentlessly used sarcasm and humor to make everyone around him laugh and had a joke for every situation. Ralph took care of his family and always showed love on his own terms, but you never wondered where you stood. He will be greatly missed by all.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 63 years, Patricia Treiber of Sioux City; children, Kim (Marla) Treiber, Lori Treiber, Chris Treiber, Beth (Bob) Pigott and Tom (Paula) Treiber; grandchildren, Kendra (Enos) Jordan, Elisabeth Treiber, Christopher (Tara) Treiber, Alexandra Treiber, Molly (Bryan) Canny, Abby (Jeff) Lister, Courtney, Amanda, Casey and Margaret Pigott; and great-grandchildren, Grace and Norah Treiber, Cecilia and Liliana Canny and Sullivan Treiber.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Maurice “Toad” Treiber; and sisters, Jean Smith, Vi Hegarty and Margie Bennette.
