SERGEANT BLUFF -- Randel L. "Randy" Barnes, 47, of Sergeant Bluff passed away Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City, with Glenn Kuiper officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Randy was born Nov. 18, 1961, in Sioux City, to Jerry and Janice (Mertz) Barnes. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools.

He married Vickey Lynn Kuiper on Aug. 16, 1980, in Sioux City. He was a lifelong resident of Sioux City and Sergeant Bluff. He was employed with Woodbury County Community Action Agency from 1980 to 1989, Bomgaars Supply from 1993 to 2007 and Pech Optical from 2007 to 2009.

He enjoyed NASCAR racing and was a loyal Dale Jr. fan. His favorite pastimes were fishing, movies, playing games and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Craig and Mandy Barnes of Sioux City, Christopher Barnes and Luke Mueller of Sioux Falls, S.D., Brian Barnes of Sioux City and Cody Barnes of Sergeant Bluff; three grandchildren, Richie, Shana and Danika Barnes; his mother, Janice Barnes of Sioux City; two sisters, Robin and Ervin Scott of Sioux City and Becky and Amando Venegas of Sioux City; and a brother, Jerry Barnes of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Rick; and a sister, Melinda.
