HUBBARD, Neb. -- Raymond T. Gormally, 95, of Hubbard passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at Regency Square Care Center in South Sioux City.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hubbard, with the Rev. Paul Albenesius officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Jackson, Neb. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City.
Raymond was born Nov. Nov. 5, 1916, in Jackson, Neb., to Patrick and Elizabeth (McKivergan) Gormally. He grew up in the Jackson area and graduated from St. Catherine's Academy in 1935. He joined the CC Camps in Valentine, Neb., for several years. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941.
On July 14, 1945, he married Eloise Sauer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Indianapolis, Ind. After his time in the service, he and Eloise moved back to the Jackson and Willis, Neb. area until 1950, when the family moved to Hubbard. Ray farmed in the Hubbard area for several years. However, many will remember him as a rural mail carrier.
Ray was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hubbard, and a former parish council member. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus Father Tracy Council 3844 in South Sioux City. Ray enjoyed the outdoors. He loved farming and gardening. He also enjoyed volunteering. He volunteered for the town of Hubbard and the church by mowing the grounds and coaching softball. In his spare time, he liked bowling and playing cards with friends. He is best known for his story telling and jokes. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, Eloise Gormally of Hubbard; 11 children, Pat Mahr of South Sioux City, Mike and Barbara Gormally of Durango, Colo., Peg and Bob Conner of Prescott, Ariz., Jane Gundvaldson of Sioux Falls, S.D., Annette and Harry Faulhaber of Fremont, Neb., Joe and Jane Gormally of Heber City, Utah, Donna and Don Fuchser of Hubbard, Kathy and Steve Palmquist of Lakewood, Colo., Paula and Jeff Bartles of Hubbard, Barbara and Steve Myers of Quinlan, Texas, and Liz Gormally of San Diego, Calif.; 25 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Monica Marron of Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bill Gormally; and his sisters, Mary O'Neill, Margaret Manley, Mildred Kniefl, and Bonnie Hayes.
