Sioux City - Raymond Robert Grohs, 86, of Sioux City died Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kenny Hsu officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Ray was born July 29, 1926, in Sioux City, the son of Albert and Anna L (Krom) Grohs. He was raised on the family farm outside Sioux City. He attended East High School.
On Feb. 28, 1953, he married Marilyn D. Miller in Sioux City. Raymond worked on the family farm for many years. He also worked as a carpenter for various companies in Sioux City.
Ray was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He was also a 50-year member of Carpenter’s Union, Local 948. In his younger days, Ray would enjoy going fishing and hunting, but the most important part of his life was spending time with his family.
He is survived by two daughters, Denece (Dennis) Buckridge of Fremont, Neb., and Linda (Nick) Dittman of South Sioux City; son, Darin Grohs of Sioux City; two grandchildren, Lance Cpl. Joshua Buckridge and Lance Cpl. Stephen Buckridge; and three sisters, Mary Lewis of Nevada, Bernice Johnsen of Sioux City, and Ellen (Merlin) Green of Red Oak, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Doris and Dorothy Grohs in infancy; and a brother, Wilbur Grohs.
