Raymond Boyd Johansen, 87, of Sioux City died Thursday, April 16, 2015, at a Sioux City hospital.

Raymond was born Nov. 18, 1927, in South Sioux City, to Arthur and Pearl (Gigear) Johansen. He grew up in South Sioux City and attended South Sioux City Public Schools, graduating in 1945. He went on to attend Morningside College for three years and transferred to the University of South Dakota School of Law, earning his bachelor of science degree from Morningside College and his Doctorate in Law from the University of South Dakota in 1951.
He worked for International Harvester for several years before starting to practice law. He worked for the Paul Deck law firm and later was a partner with Paul Mahr before starting his own law firm, Johansen Law. In 1966, he brought his brother, Gary into the firm and it became the Johansen and Johansen Law Firm. He served as the city attorney for both South Sioux City, Neb., and North Sioux City, S.D. Raymond and his brother, Gary both retired in 1999.
Mr. Johansen was a member of the Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota Bar Associations, a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of Omadi Masonic Lodge No. 5 in South Sioux City, and the Scottish Rite. He attended First Lutheran Church of South Sioux City.
His hobbies included reading and studying history, and traveling especially to the gulf coastal areas of Florida and New Orleans, La. He loved to walk every day at places like Crystal Cove, the skywalk system in downtown Sioux City as well as the mall.
Raymond married his longtime companion, Norma Haid on Feb. 1, 2006, at Elk Point, S.D.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Johansen of Sioux City; stepson, Greg (Peggy) Mings of Omaha; stepdaughter, Dawn (Jeff) Sander of Onawa, Iowa; granddaughter, Heather (Chris) Caputo of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandson, Joel (Tricia) Dickes of Navarre, Fla.; eight stepgrandchildren, Shane (Joanne) Valencia of Pico Rivera, Calif., Jaime (Nadia) Valencia of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Norma Mings of West Des Moines, Iowa, Erika (Don) Ruffcorn of Onawa, Katie (Mark) Shull of Turin, Iowa, Lacey (Ryan) Blakely of Bellevue, Neb., Carrie Goldsmith of Omaha, and Phillip (Diana) Goldsmith of Omaha; two great-grandchildren, 19 great-stepgrandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Joan Johansen of Novato, Calif.; niece, Michelle Johansen of Novato, Calif.; two nephews, Steve (Kenia) Johansen of Phoenix, Ariz., and Brian (Marisa) Johansen of New York, N.Y.; brother-in-law, Dennis (Cindy) Roberts of Ft. Worth, Texas; and four nephews, Clint Roberts of Arlington, Texas, Clifton and Clay Roberts of Louisville, Texas, and Clark Roberts of Ft. Worth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Linda Dickes; son-in-law, Daniel Dickes; and his brother, Gary Johansen.
