Reah Gene Severson, 94, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, July 25, 2015, at Prairie Estates Healthcare in Elk Point, S.D.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Gene was born on April 3, 1921, in Kanawha, Iowa, to Walter and Binnie (Harson) Knoll. Gene was united in marriage to Donald Severson on June 6, 1948, in Kanawha. They moved to Sioux City in 1953. She received her teaching certificate from UNI and received her B.A. degree from Morningside College. She worked as a teacher at Floyd, Smith, and Longfellow Schools for many years.
She was a member of the Sioux City Education Association, Iowa State Education Association, National Education Association, and the Morning Glories Quilting Club at Morningside Lutheran. Gene was very active in Grace United Methodist Church and enjoyed traveling, gardening, sewing, and spending time with her family.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Jilann Severson of Des Moines, Rich (Doris) Severson of Dakota Dunes; grandchildren, Angie, Amanda and Kyrie Severson; and great-grandchildren, Kiara and Hailey Severson.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister; and one brother.
