Richard Ellis Bramblett

Richard Ellis Bramblett, 81, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, July 27, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Jackson, Neb., with the Rev. Paul Albenesius officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Northside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Richard was born in Bellefountaine, Ohio, on July 18, 1927, to Lillard and Harriet (McQueen) Bramblett. He grew up and attended school in Mount Morris, Mich. He attended college at Michigan State University. He was a military veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

On May 17, 1958, he married Agnes Therese Twohig at St. John's Catholic Church in Willis, Neb. He was an executive with General Motors Corporation and as such, the couple and their family resided in many areas of the United States. After his retirement, the couple lived on Skidway Island near Savannah, Ga., and the Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Ga. They moved back to the Siouxland area in 2003, where they have resided ever since.

He was of the Catholic faith. He enjoyed many hobbies including being a member of the GM Club, golfing, boating, painting, reading and was an excellent cook. He also enjoyed staying up to date on current events and being a member of the Republican Party. One of his greatest achievements was being involved in the Parade of Progress, which was sponsored by General Motors.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes T. Bramblett of Sioux City; three children, Lt. Col. Gregory and Juri Bramblett of Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas, Mark Bramblett of Osterville, Mass., and Kelly and Lenny Wells of Savannah, Ga.; five grandchildren, Anthony E. Bramblett, Brandon R. Bramblett, Elijah F. Bramblett, Molly K. Wells and Courtney C. Wells; a brother, Ben and Gloria McGeathy; a sister-in-law, Estella Bramblett; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, John and Bob Bramblett.

Memorials can be directed to the American Heart Association and St. Patrick's Catholic Church in his name.
