Richard Keith Collins, 73, died peacefully on Saturday, July 26, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Don Botic officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Richard was born in Sioux City on Oct. 14, 1934, the son of Harry and Margaret (Ruff) Collins. He was raised in Vermillion, S.D., and San Francisco, Calif. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He married Sherry McKnight on Jan. 25, 1975, in Morningside Presbyterian Church. The couple made their home in Sioux City. He worked as a union carpenter and was a member of the local Carpenter Union 948. He was a member of Morningside Presbyterian Church and had been involved with cardiac rehab for the past 25 years.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry; a son and his wife, Robert and Wendy of Sioux City; two daughters, Kathy and her husband, John Becker of Sergeant Bluff, and Kelly Sargisson of Des Moines; eight grandchildren, Sean and Erin Collins, Kaitlin, Nick, Jessica and Andrew Becker, Grant and Jake Sargisson; his mother-in-law, Avon McKnight of Sioux City; and a special niece, Jean Collins of Redwood City, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 13 brothers and sisters; and his father-in-law, Charles McKnight.
