Richard Timothy "Dick" Brennan

SIOUX CITY -- Richard T. "Dick" Brennan, 82, of Sioux City passed away peacefully on Friday, April 29, 2011 at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., followed by a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:45 p.m., at the Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Dick was born on Jan. 24, 1929, in Sioux City, the son of Charles J. and Kathryn (Fleming) Brennan. He was a lifelong Sioux City resident. He graduated from Trinity High School and then Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., in 1956.
Dick married Jean Strahmann on Aug. 31, 1957, in Cherokee, Iowa. He worked in the human resource/budget and finance departments at St. Joseph Hospital, Marian Health Center and Mercy Medical Center for 27 years. Prior to working for the hospital, he was an insurance salesman for 10 years.
Dick was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the men's club at the church, sang in the choir and served on the parish council. He was also a member of the Blessed Sacrament Council of the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus. Dick enjoyed golfing, playing cards and watching sports. He did volunteer work for Meals on Wheels, Hospice of Siouxland, American Cancer Society and the Queen of Peace. He also sang in the Barbershop chorus several years ago. Dick will be most remembered for being a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; his children, Mary and Matt Forristal of Holstein, Iowa, Margaret and Dave Greving of Olathe, Kan., Theresa and Tony Lauritsen of Kansas City, Mo., Julie and Sam Kvidera of Dysart, Iowa, Michael and Caroline Brennan of Omaha; 14 grandchildren; his brother and sisters, Jim and Mary Brennan of Janesville, Wis.; Sister Jean Brennan, OP of Sinsinawa, Wis., and Sister Peg Brennan, OP of Whitefish Bay, Wis.; sister in law, Anastacia Brennan of Wausau, Wis.; and brother-in-law, Al Strozdas of Dayton, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Father John Brennan and Robert Brennan; and his sisters, Catherine Marriott and Mary Eunice Strozdas.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name for the Blessed Sacrament Endowment Fund and Hospice of Siouxland.
