Richard E. "Dick" Green, 82, of McCook Lake passed away Thursday, May 12, 2016, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. The Rev. Merrill Muller will officiate. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. In honor of Dick, everyone dress casual for the funeral.
Richard was born on Dec. 6, 1933, in Stevens, S.D., the son of Charles and Bessie (Olson) Green. He was raised in North Sioux City. Richard joined the U.S. Army and severed during the Korean War.
On June 18, 1956, he married Rose Fair in Luverne, Minn. The couple made their home in McCook Lake. Richard worked as a custodian at McCook Grade School for many years with his twin brother, Bob. He later worked in the service department at Williams Appliance Store with Bob. Every morning Dick went to his brother Earl's for coffee and to discuss current events.
Dick was full of love, laughter and jokes and loved animals. Grandpa always had a song in his heart to sing and teach the kids with Christmas songs being his favorite any time of year. He loved all holidays, especially Christmas and the 4th of July, and loved the gatherings and the cookouts with family and friends. Family was the most important part of his life and he was known to everyone as "Grandpa."
