Richard Lee Fisher Sr., 75, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, at his daughter's residence following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mr. Fisher was born April 3, 1932, in Sioux City, to John August and Gertrude L. (Goodier) Fisher. He attended Sioux City schools.
He married Rose Bishop on June 8, 1957, in Sioux City. He had resided his whole life in Sioux City except for nine years that he resided in St. Joseph, Mo. He was employed with Armour and Co. for 20 years. Later, he was employed with Sioux Tools, Marian Health Center and also part-time at the Sioux City Tyson Event Center.
He was a member of the Salvation Army and sold "War Cry" magazines for them. His greatest and most fulfilling hobby was taking pride in his work. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, woodworking, rebuilding and repairing vehicles, watching football games with family and his dog.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion Monahan Post 464.
Survivors include his wife, Rose of Sioux City; his children, Rosalie and Richard Ellefson of Le Mars, Iowa, Cynthia Murphy and significant other, Orland Strom of Sioux City, Blanche Fisher of Naples, Fla., Richard and Tammy Fisher Jr. of Sioux City and Melissa and Jason Uhl of Lawton, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen and Bob Stellzer of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a sister-in-law, Barb Fischer of Denver, Colo.; and a half brother, Marvin and Carol Nelson of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Herb Fischer; and stepbrothers, Charles "Chuck" and Darwin "Butch" Nelson.
