Richard R. Harrington, 82, of Salix died Friday, Feb. 27, 2015, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix, with the Rev. Patrick O'Kane officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City.
Richard was born on June 8, 1932, in Sioux City, the son of Michael Clinton and Margaret (Reynolds) Harrington. He was raised on a farm in the Salix area and graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1950.
Richard married Madonna Lehrman on Sept. 19, 1970, in Sioux City. They made their home in Salix. He worked on the family farm for many years and also worked as a security guard at Mercy Medical Center for 25 years. He retired in 2010. Richard's wife, Madonna, died on Oct. 22, 2009, in Sioux City.
He was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix. He was an avid fan of Notre Dame football and enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians. Richard also enjoyed Sunday nights at the bandshell and loved to travel and spend time with his children and grandchildren. He also never missed celebrating his favorite holiday, St. Patrick's Day.
Surviving are sons, Clinton and Anh Harrington of Orange, Calif., Pat and Robin Harrington of Carroll, Iowa, and Don and Dawn Michelle Harrington of Hinton, Iowa; daughters, Rose Harrington of Salix, Rita and Eric Anderson of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Lisa and Matt Keagle of Sioux City; 14 grandchildren, Bryce, Koen, Kelsey, Taylor, Emma, Donaven, Dylan, Danell, Devan, Cora, Ella, Grace, Mason and Lucy; brothers, George and Mary Harrington of Sioux City, Daniel and Anita Harrington of Sioux City and Kevin Harrington of Sioux City; and sisters, Audrey and Bob Kurth of Le Mars, Iowa, Lenore Truitt of Virginia, and Julie and Maurice Winter of Las Vegas, Nev.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a brother, John Harrington.
