Richard J. "Dick" Iverson, 85, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, at his residence.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. A Masonic service conducted by Landmark Lodge 103 will conclude the service. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Dick was born on May 13, 1930, in Sioux City, to Erwin and Marie (Bottorff) Iverson. He grew up graduated from Emerson , Neb. and then went to work for Automatic Equipment Company in Pender, Neb. After high school, he played trumpet in the Harold Jahns Band.
Dick was united in marriage to Joy Bressler on Aug. 26, 1950, in Wakefield, Neb. The couple then moved to Sioux City. She preceded him in death in 2003 after 53 years of marriage. Dick enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1953 to 1954. He worked for Sioux City Iron Company from 1949 until 1982, where his sales route took him throughout the Midwest and to Pierre, S.D. After Sioux City Iron Company, he worked at Sesco Equipment from 1986 to 1992. Dick always stayed busy and helped his son-in-law doing construction, building a log home in Homer, Neb., and a medical center in Correctionville, Iowa.
He was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church and was the president of his bowling league at Sunset Plaza from 1972 to 1975. Dick was a Mason with Landmark Lodge 103, a 60-year member of Sioux City Scottish Rite, Shriner, and was a chaplin for the state of Iowa Eastern Star for several years. Dick was known by many of his friends and family as Grandpa.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Penny (Bob) Noack of Sioux City; two grandsons, Sgt. Sean (Amanda) Gilbert of Des Moines, and Alex Noack and special friend Kelly Riedy of Sioux City; stepgranddaughter, Tracy (Chris) Jansma of Sheldon, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Amber Swinehart and River Joy Gilbert; great-stepgrandchildren, Dillon, Luke, Jessie, and Cooper; brother, James (Lois) Iverson of Emerson; and sister-in-law, Inez Dobbs of Sioux City.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joy; and brother, Barry.
