Sioux City - | Richard Paul Jasman Sr., 84, went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ, his Savior Friday, Dec. 14, 2012.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Richard was the youngest child born to Fred and Theresa (Perschl) Jasman. He attended and graduated from Sioux City schools. As a youngster, Richard had fond memories of working with his siblings in the truck garden of George Mayhew. At age 17, he joined the U.S. Navy to fight in World War II.
He returned from the war and married his school sweetheart, Helen Buhman. They raised two children during their 66 years of marriage.
Richard worked for a railroad company. He was later employed at Metz Baking Company, where he was the chief engineer for 40 years.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church for more than 60 years.
Richard lived a full life and enjoyed inventing, fishing, the outdoors, gardening, trains, cutting stained glass, making hand-crafted pillows, cheering for the New England Patriots football team and eating his wife's good cooking. He was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a proud World War II Navy veteran. He was a lifelong resident of Sioux City.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; his daughter, Carla Bata; his son, Richard Jasman Jr.; a son in-law, Carl Bata; grandchildren, Channa (Steve) Young, Paul Bata, Adam (Stephanie) Bata, James (Cassandra) Bata, Jesse Jasman, Luke (Kristine) Bata, Jack Jasman and Timothy Bata; and seven great-grandchildren, with a great-grandson due in February 2013.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lynn Annette; an infant son, Jon Jeffery; his parents; two sisters; four brothers; and a beloved daughter in-law, Terry Jasman.
