SIOUX CITY -- Richard H. Johnson, 84, of Sioux City died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Memorial services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Valerie Heller and Stephen Russell officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes. Online condolences may be sent to

Richard was born Oct. 22, 1925, in Sioux City, the son of Roy and Florence (Youngren) Johnson. He graduated from East High School in January 1944. He then entered the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific and European Theaters until his discharge in May 1946.
He married Mary Louise Slattery on Feb. 1, 1947, at First Covenant Church in Sioux City. He graduated from Morningside College in August 1949, with a degree in business administration. He worked as a carpenter and home builder.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Dick loved his family, fishing and visiting with his many friends.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary; his brother and sister-in-law, Wayne C. and Betty Johnson; six children and their spouses, Kristine and Thomas Flynn of Johnston, Iowa, Marta and David Patee of Sioux City, Patricia and Clark Reid of Naples, Fla., Kirk and Connie Johnson of Sioux City, Kimberly and Phillip Witt of Weatherby Lake, Mo., and Brian and Jami Johnson of Sergeant Bluff; 16 grandchildren and spouses, Ryan and Katy Flynn of Des Moines, Erin and Josh Clanton of Des Moines, Rory and Charise Flynn of West Des Moines, Lindsey and Bobby Deeb of San Francisco, Calif., Daniel and Jill Patee of Sioux City, Grant and Katy Reid of Parrish, Fla., Thomas and Wivianne Reid of Ft. Myers, Fla., Paige and Matt Polk of Ft. Myers, Fla., Leah, Joseph and Lucas Johnson of Sioux City, Laurel Witt of Wichita, Kan., Blair and Chris Cobbett of Kansas City, Mo., Andrew Witt of Lawrence, Kan., and Jessica and Shay Johnson of Sergeant Bluff; and nine great-grandchildren, Jonah, Oscar, Violet, Britton, Natalie, Nicholas, Matthew, Luiza and Emerson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Daniel L. Johnson.
The family suggests memorials to Grace United Methodist Church or Hospice of Siouxland.
