Richard Leo Kueny

SIOUX CITY -- Richard Leo Kueny, 78, of Sioux City died Nov. 13, 2011 after suffering cardiac arrest.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Gary Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be a luncheon following the graveside services at the church. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a parish vigil service at 6 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Richard was born June 13, 1933, in Danbury, Iowa, the youngest son of Frank and Elizabeth Kueny. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Andromeda.

After leaving the Navy, he fell in love with and married Sally A. Frank on Jan. 13, 1962. They loved and raised seven children in Sioux City. Richard worked for AC&R Refrigeration and was self-employed for more than 20 years.

He was an active member of St. Michael Catholic Church. He was a hardworking man with great integrity, a quick smile and a tender heart.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Mark and Elizabeth Kueny, Mary Beth and Patrick Runge, Sandra and Shannon Stewart, Paul and Becky Kueny, Kathleen and Robert Roe Jr., and Andrew and Katie Kueny; his cherished grandchildren, Nicholas Stewart, Alec Stewart, Peter Stewart, Max Stewart, Robbie Roe, Gabrielle Roe, Tyler Kueny, Makenna Kueny, Makayla Kueny, Makira Kueny, Isabella Kueny and Trenel; and his great-grandchild, Timothy Stewart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Elizabeth Kueny; his siblings, Francis, Lester, Wayne, Joe and Dorothy; his beloved wife, Sally; and his beautiful daughter, Barbara.

Richard was a phenomenal character who loved God, his family, country and friends. He will be sorely missed.
